Here is a talk show I would like to share with you — this is me talking about faith as concisely as I know how

My New Day

Hey blog family–

One of the real highlights for me in 2014 was getting the chance to be interviewed by Bob and Audrey Meisner on their talk show My New Day. They have an incredible story themselves – their marriage went through a really dark period and was on the verge of collapsing, but God did something really special and fully restored it. They now travel around the world encouraging couples to “fight for their family.” And in between, they host this wonderful talk show.

We had so much chemistry together right from the go. They are serious students of the Bible, and have an instinct for how to probe to the deepest layers of truth. At the same time, they are also a ton of fun, so it brought a lot of levity to what was otherwise a fairly heavy conversation.

One of the fun parts of being on the show with them was how unscripted it was. Before the interview began Audrey said, “We loved the book, and loved all the different themes that got covered there. Let’s just start talking, and see where it goes.” I was expecting something much more rigid, but was totally up for the free wheeling nature of it (though I was also a bit nervous, as we were going to do three straight episodes like this).

As we moved from topic to topic, our ability to play off of each other continued to increase. And then, just like that, all three interviews were over. Then something else really cool happened.

As you watch these you’ll see Bob mention a number of times how much he is looking forward to talking about faith, mission, and how that leads to Biblical justice. We laid the foundation for that, but just couldn’t quite get there in the time allotted in the first three interviews. When the third and final episode ended, the cameras turned off, and Bob turned to me and said, “I absolutely loved all three of these interviews. But I really, really wanted to talk about justice, and we didn’t do that in a meaningful way.”

He thought about it for a minute, and then called an impromptu meeting. He gathered all the producers and videographers, and they looked over their notes and schedule, which was scheduled to the minute. He asked them if there was any way that they could re-route and do a spontaneous fourth show right then. I thought he was kidding, but suddenly there was a flurry of motion and everyone did what they had to do, and we did a fourth show just on justice. I can’t wait until that one is edited and complete, because it was a really raw and substantial conversation. It ended with Bob getting teary eyed, and looking into the eyes of the viewers. He asked if they are serious about holistic faith, about discipleship, and about being faith-sent representatives of justice. It was really powerful.

So…

I rarely ask you in a direct way to consider sharing stuff I write or say, but I am going to ask you to consider doing so with this. I watched all three of these last night, and felt great about the way the conversation progressed. It’s hard to give a holistic overview of life in Christ when you are only talking in sound bytes. By allowing the conversation to spread over three episodes, we were able to cover most of the foundational themes of life in Christ. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it, and I’d love for you to consider passing on the link. It’s a great talk show in general, and there are a lot of people who would benefit from Bob and Audrey’s ministry.

Thanks again! I appreciate all the love and support

  1. This was good stuff, Daniel… Thanks for sharing… I wondered how you would be able to handle “Audrey”… who at times was a little over the top with her personality—but it all came across in a dynamic way.

I am glad that you are getting these media opportunities…,
